Source: Cleveland Free Times:
Cleveland’s Exit Stencil Recordings will re-release History and Geography, the 1984 release by Home and Garden, fronted by former Pere Ubu members Scott Krauss and Tony Maimone, in March. To whet appetites, Exit Stencil owner Ryan Weitzel is presenting an evening with Maimone and Krauss at his Miller Weitzel Gallery (5304 Detroit Ave., 216.939.9099) on Saturday, November 19 at 7 p.m. They’ll be joined by Weitzel on guitar, Ubu synth player Robert Wheeler and singer Keith Kornajcek. Krauss says the new CD version will put the old vinyl one to shame. “We transferred it from analog tape to digital, and remixed the whole thing out at SUMA recording. It has a whole different depth in it now.” Suggested donation: $5.
I've heard some of the new recording. Sounds AMAZING and like it was just recorded yesterday. Very current.

4:32 pm - Ubu Performing Live, in Pittsburgh

"X, The Man With X-Ray Eyes" was a B-movie sensation. Now, the legendary American avant-garage rock band Pere Ubu generates a throbbing, dark and atmospheric live underscore which restores the film's fabled "lost" ending.

8:54 pm - Pere Ubu's THE MODERN DANCE in 5.1 Surround

Pere Ubu's hugely influential first album, THE MODERN DANCE, is scheduled for release as a surround-sound remix on Silverline Records (licensed by Cooking Vinyl) on October 3. The format will be DualDisc. One side will be a DVD featuring a 5.1 surround sound remix of the entire album, special features (including some very rare early video footage from Cleveland), as well as a new mastering of the original stereo album at DVD audio quality. The other side will feature a cd format of the new mastering of the original stereo album.

David Thomas, who attended the remix session by Chris Haynes, reports:

This is the way we heard The Modern Dance in the studio... no, it's better than that, it's the way we heard it when we were playing it. The detailing is fantastic. The space reveals everything while still retaining the album's intensity and original intention. And the best thing is, if you want to hear something louder or quieter you just move your head a foot. Everything is there!
The Modern Dance was released in January 1978.

Hey, guys. 'Tis I -- your friendly, neighborhood ubu-moderator. I just wanted to say "hello" and get this place going.

As far as I know, this is the first time an Ubu-related community has been attempted. What the hell's taken so long?? I'm curious to see how popular this gets.

With a couple of significant re-releases coming up, including a 5.1 Surround/DualDisc version of The Modern Dance and a greatest hits collection, never has there been a finer time to be an ubu fan.
